1) In what way do the shadows and silhouettes of the Film Noir style affect the story of The Night of the Hunter? The shadows make you feel something, they make you almost nervous and you are on the edge of your seat because you don't know what will happen.
2) What role does music play in the movie? Music plays the biggest role in a movie i would say. With music you could make a scene that is scary and make it happier or make it terrifying all because of the music.
3) A variety of animals were shown in the river scene where John and Pearl are fleeing from the Preacher, Harry. What do you think those animals symbolized? Animals can symbolize many different things, if the animal is big and scary that can symbolize the big and scary person they are running away from, but if the animal is small an innocent then that can symbolize them running away.
4) Name 2 ways in which the juxtaposition between Good and Evil were represented. I would say this was represented because Harry pretends to be good when really he is evil.
5) Select 3 words to describe each of the following characters
Harry Powell-Preacher cruel, irritating,evil
Ben Harper-Dad
Willa Harper-Mom
John Harper-Little Boy smart, trusting, brave
Pearl Harper-Little Girl childlike,
Uncle Birdy - Dock master nervous,
Rachel Cooper-Rescuer trusting, lovable, gentle
6) Using the list above, place the characters in order, according to who you believe had the strongest moral character (1 being the highest).
1. Rachel Cooper
2. John Harper
3. Pearl Harper
4. Uncle Birdy
5. Willa Harper
6. Ben Harper
7. Harry Powell
7) What do you think motivates the Preacher, Harry Powell? He wants the money that the kids dad had.
8) Which character did you like the most…why? My favorite character was Rachel Cooper because she takes kids in who need help.
9) Which character did you like the least…why? The character that i like the least is the pastor because is rude and should not take care f the kids.
10) Would you recommend this movie to a friend…why? I would recommend this movie to someone who likes movies that people don't normally like but i don't think the average person would like it.
